The new City of Aiken Municipal Building

Editorial: Aiken City Council Meeting

According to one attendee, tonight’s City Council meeting was ”a little subdued” and ”cordial enough.” Perhaps it was the lawsuit filed less than a week ago against Aiken City Council members, among others, alleging an abundance of violations of state and local law.

Perhaps it was the presence of 5 or more police cars outside.

Or the presence of 5 or more law enforcement officers inside, who were there to assist citizens through the security protocols implemented by City Council two weeks ago:

But the meeting was said to be a little subdued. And cordial enough.

  1. Is there any way to get this info into the Aiken Standard so more people are aware of what is going on? The only thing that could make this mess worse is if the Madaugh family from Hampton County were involved.

    1. Best we can do for now is share whatever info we have among friends, associates, and on social media. We are fortunate to have access to Don Moniak’s investigative reporting, which is well-sourced from the probably hundreds of dollars of Freedom of Information Act requests he’s made over the past few months to learn what has been transpiring behind closed doors among City officials over the past 2 years.

    2. Ted Eno. At the present time there is no evidence to suggest Murdaugh family involvement. So while a Coen brothers script is highly unlikely, perhaps a local playwright and producer will sally forth and put this drama on the regional stage.

The Aiken Standard has received my articles and are free to request information. I am pondering how to make the FOIA info more readily available. The AMDC was posting docs released via FOIA on their websites transparency page, but have not updated it in a month.
