Voter Comments on Snafus During the August 8 Primary Election

While the names of these voters are not being published here, all but one of these comments (the St. John’s/St. Mary’s entry) were made by named individuals.

I went to vote at about 9:00 – 9:15 and was handed my ballet to go vote, well the voting machine wouldn’t take it. So they had me wait about 20 mins for someone to come, the lady comes takes my ballet and writes on it and then puts a blank one in the voting machine hands it to me and tells me that it should work now but we have had issues all morning, So I asked, is this normal, she responded that it wasn’t normal but my vote should still count but she wasn’t sure. I talk to another worker who told me the same thing, that they weren’t sure if the vote would count or not

It was the same for me at Odell Weeks. More training should have been done prior to today.

I voted in P47 today and the machine rejected the ballot I was given. They told me to go to the second machine and it did the same thing. Then I was given a blank card that the machine accepted and I voted. My votes name was on this when the machine returned it to me, then I placed this in the machine where you place your ballot to be counted. I hope it was!

They had problems at Odell Weeks at 0730. Obviously they didn’t get them resolved. Numerous machines malfunctioning. Only one machine worked and it was P6. They didn’t have the voting signs up at the building entrances. They were still running around putting them up on doors at 0740. They put them on doors then propped the doors open so they couldn’t be seen. Lots of confusion.

I did not know until I arrived to vote that my polling location temporarily changed for this election; luckily, I had time today to go to new temporary location. Also, new location was very nearby.

Not usually one to wave my sticker around, but I feel like I earned it today. I went to 3 places before I finally found the 4th place, where I was to vote for mayor. My normal voting poll is at St John’s. St John’s told me, and another fellow, to go to St Mary’s. St Mary’s church sent me to St Mary’s school, and the school had no idea. Luckily, a nice lady was able to find it for me online, after I could not.  Precinct 1, and several other precincts, are to go to Lessie B Price Senior Center on Edgefield Rd. Very discouraging, to say the least. If you live in the city, get out and vote today, if you can find it!

Very disappointed! Arrived prepared to vote at what has consistently been recently indicated as my polling place – Odell Weeks Center. At check-in, I was advised “they have me voting at St. Paul Lutheran”. Why would I be sent all the way to St. Paul Lutheran when I could practically hit the Odell Weeks Center if I threw a rock!! Too frustrating and hot to be chasing around, so I didn’t!

Yes went to Odell and was told to go to another location to vote. Went there and they told me no I had to vote at Odell – returned again and was told sorry and was allowed to vote.

Went to normal voting place for Hitchcock 66 around noon. Told that I had to go to Odell weeks. When I left, I met a couple who said they had been to 2 other places and but could not vote there.  I did not see Aiken Standard info on poll locations because my Aiken Standard arrived at 3 PM.  Was told that info was also published in Aiken Standard last week, but I only receive about half of my newspapers.. Why did our voting location have to change? I was the only voter there? This special election was VERY poorly planned and executed!!
